2018

4th Annual FLARE meeting, University of Copenhagen, October 17-20, 2018. Jens Friis Lund, Bijendra Basnyat and Thorsten Treue part of a SCIFOR-inspired panel entitled ‘Rethinking forestry’ featuring four presentations examining forestry from a social science perspective.

SCIFOR co-organized and -hosted an international conference in Kathmandu, Nepal entitled ‘Wild harvests, governance and livelihoods in Asia’ 30 November to 2 December 2017.

IUFRO (International Union of Forest Research Organizations) 125th Anniversary Congress
SCIFOR was represented with a session entitled "The role of forestry science in promoting resilient and carbon dense forests" at the IUFRO (International Union of Forest Research Organizations) 125th Anniversary Congress, which took place at the Konzerthaus in Freiburg, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, from 19 to 22 September 2017. The panel consisted of four presentations by Bijendra Basnyat, Eliezeri Sungusia, Srijana Baral and Numan Amanzi and a debate led by Jens Friis Lund - all focused on the role of scientific forestry, management planning and forest inventories in participatory forestry processes in Nepal and Tanzania. Bijendra Basnyt  also presented a paper at the same conference entitled “Hidden incentives in Nepal timber value chain” in another panel. Seminar
Seminar at the College of Forestry, Wildlife and Tourism, Sokoine University of Agriculture, Tanzania March 7, 2017. Jens Friis Lund represented some of SCIFOR’s research in a presentation entitled ‘Imagined forestry: lessons from past and present’.

National Workshop on Silviculture, Department of Forest, Department of Forest Research and Survey (DFRS), Federation of Community Forest Users Nepal (FECOFUN), Association of Collaborative Forest Users Nepal (ACOFUN), and Forest Action Nepal
Bijendra Basnyat presented the paper “Branding Scientific Forestry in the Community Forestry of Nepal: A Case Study from the Midhill District” at a National Workshop on Silviculture, Department of Forest, Department of Forest Research and Survey (DFRS), Federation of Community Forest Users Nepal (FECOFUN), Association of Collaborative Forest Users Nepal (ACOFUN), and Forest Action Nepal, 19-21 February, 2017.

Bir Bahadur Khanal Chhetri and colleagues presented the paper “Are We Doing the Right Things in the Right Way? Relevance of the Forest Inventory Data for Deciding Silvicultural Operations in the Terai Community Forest of Nepal” at a National Workshop on Silviculture, Department of Forest, Department of Forest Research and Survey (DFRS), Federation of Community Forest Users Nepal (FECOFUN), Association of Collaborative Forest Users Nepal (ACOFUN), and Forest Action Nepal, 19-21 February, 2017.

Bijendra Basnyat presented the paper 'Interests of Forest Bureaucrats in Community Forest Management Plan Revision in the Western Hills of Nepal' at the IUFRO International and Multi-Disciplinary Scientific Conference: Forest-related policy and governance: Analyses in the environmental social sciences, 4-7 October 2016, Bogor, Indonesia.
